About Us
BUILD CDC was started in the Winter of 2016 by a group of concerned citizens of the Selma/Dallas County
area in conjunction with Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
Our goal is to advance the Selma/Dallas County and Black Belt areas.
We are committed to the following objectives:
- Develop, implement, and sustain a strategy that teaches about community and government resources.
- Develop and implement strategies that promote and sustain improved healthcare access and quality targeting high-risk diseases within high-risk populations.
- Develop a family life center and teach family life skills.
- Teach youth leadership and partnership, youth visioning and planning, and youth conflict resolution skills.
- Partner with other entities that promote and sustain educating and training initiatives, including Pre-K through college and job readiness, and develop under-developed resources when necessary.
- Focus on strategies that target family oriented community development.
- Forge common community identity and identify shared vision among collaborating entities and stakeholders within the community for the development of community based leadership to economically revitalize distressed neighborhoods in Selma, Dallas County, and Black Belt area in Alabama.
- Promote sound business investments and entrepreneurial opportunities; partner with other entities to provide entrepreneurial training, one-on-one entrepreneurship counseling, individualized entrepreneurship assessment, networking, access to capital through microenterprise services and other means of capitalizing new and developing ventures.
Board Commitment
The Board of Directors’ primary responsibility is to direct the CDC towards widest possible
support system and community engagement for BUILD. As the governing body of the
corporation, the Board is responsible for finance and property management oversight of BUILD.
Specifically, the Board:
- Provides organizational leadership and direction
- Ensures that programming adheres to and achieves BUILD’s mission
- Oversees financials, including adoption and management of annual operating budget
- Develops volunteer leadership
- Recruits and hires the Executive Director
- Identifies and recruits a strong Board of Directors
- Directs mission oriented giving
- Raises funds and in-kind support
- Supports branding and public relations initiatives
