BUILD CDC STEM works. The afterschool STEM program provides hand-on and virtual classes to 60 students, 2 hours per day, 5 days per week during the school year, and 6 hours per day, 5 days per week during the summer. STEM participants show measurable academic improvements while making their experience unforgettable.

BUILD CDC successfully launched the BUILD Selma Family Routine program to stabilize tornado-displaced families through housing placement, parenting support, and wrap-around services. By restoring family routines and guiding families toward permanent housing, BUILD CDC demonstrated its ability to strengthen families and lead effective community recovery initiatives.

The EMBC Restoration House is an on-going project that carries participants through the process of researching property titles; renovating and furnishing a remodeling project; and operating and sustaining a home. Once completed, EMBC Restoration House will become the neighborhood home economics laboratory. During development we will train participants in minor home repairs. After development we will use EMBC Restoration Houseto train participants in home maintenance and home economics. EMBC Restoration House will also serve as a “short-term” homeless shelter for families who suddenly through disaster, such as fire or storm, find themselves homeless.

BUILD CDC partnered with UAB Live HealthSmart to train after-school leaders in the Healthy Happy Kidsprogram, equipping them to teach nutrition and physical activity. The eight-week program engages children in healthy eating and active learning, promoting lifelong wellness and expanding reach across the community.
BUILD CDC Sprinkle Me Pink Breast Cancer Awareness is an annual walk that raises awareness, strengthens community, and supports breast cancer patients. Every step and every donation help fund critical services through direct contributions to patients and/or American Cancer Society, and brings hope to families across Selma and beyond.

The EMBC Restoration House introduces participants to a broad range of career path opportunities in construction and real estate. Participants get to experience real estate title and tax transactions; construction trades in drywall, painting, plumbing, and roofing; and setting up non-profit ‘wrap-around’ services supporting family self-sufficiency.

BUILD CDC Community Collaboration and Sustainable Development strategy builds collaborative partnerships with public and private; local, nation, and international entities to avoid duplication of resources and broaden capacity.
